Question by James S: Rotary shaver vs. Mach 3 Turbo?
About 3 years ago I began to rely on close-shaving due to a retail job I applied for. I tried various disposable razors until I settled on the Mach 3 T. I also purchased a dry Norelco shaver with the HQ8 blade, the 7110X model.
Today I am really interested in using ONE type of shaver that doesn’t irritate the skin and can be used for the entire face. I use the Mach 3 for: sideburns, chin, beard, jawline and sometimes cheek area. I use the Norelco for: neck, under jaw, cheek area.
Mach 3 Turbo:
The best thing I like about the Mach 3 is that the cuts are precise and doesn’t cause any razor burn.
However over time it has left my face feeling incredibly rough, even if I apply post-shave balm. My face also looks rough from the shaving, even when I apply lotion after a shave. Initially I would use the Mach 3 to chop off sideburns and shape up the beard area, but now I use it for my entire face and that’s why I have that rough look.
About the Norelco:
In 2008, I bought this mainly because I was tired of nicks and razor bumps under the jaw and at the neck area. However for the chin and beard area it is not as precise as the Mach 3 and it’s dry only.
First Question: Will I get a smoother look and feel on my face if I use a rotary (better than my 7110x) instead of using the classic powerless shaver?
Second Question: If I shift to a better Phillips rotary shaver, which ones are ideal for wet/dry and can be used with shaving cream?
Third Question: I would like to keep my Mach 3 Turbo, but use it less. What part of the face would you recommend for this style of razor?
Fourth Question: What can I do to get rid of the rough look on my face? It’s probably razor bumps or acne. I use post shaving lotion but it’s not enough.

Question by Dale: How to use electric shaver under chin/neck?
I got an electric shaver for xmas. The “Phillips Norelco.” I like it and all, but when I shaved under my chin and on my throat area it pinched and hurt! Do I gotta do something different to get that area? Thanks in advance!

If it is the Norelco Rotary Blade Shaver – here’s a secret I learned 30 years ago & still do it to this day. BEFORE shaving – apply rubbing alcohol to your face & neck & let it dry. This will make the whiskers stand up straighter for a smoothe, closer shave.
If you move the razor around in short circles as you move the razor over your face & neck – you will get all those wild whiskers that have a mind all their own. The combination of the razor’s blades turning in circles – plus YOU moving the razor around in circles, makes for a much better shave. It takes awhile to adjust to an electric razor. Once you adapt, you will like it.
If you should end up with razor burn from baring down too hard or knicks – after finishing, apply Vitamin E Oil daily to the affected area to moisturize the skin & promote healing.
Shaving should be an art – not a chore. Allow enough time to get the job done. Don’t rush thru it.
